Let’s get down to the skinny of it. A lot of you want to know whether or not you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur, so I’m going to lay out what I think makes an entrepreneur.
1. You’re okay with boring
I’ve met so many people who say, “you run your own companies, that must be so exciting!”. Don’t get me wrong, I love running my own businesses and being able to solve other people’s problems with my ideas and skill set. However, I think people think I sit at coffee shops on my MacBook Air and rule the world. In reality, it’s a lot of late nights, early mornings and doing the same thing over and over again. If you can’t do things well over and over again and do them well, you may want to reconsider being an entrepreneur.
2. You’re not afraid to look like an idiot
You’re going to mess up, people won’t believe in you and you’re going to doubt yourself. But, if you can make it through all of that, you will rise. You will have to be confident even when you feel like you cannot be. And if you aren’t there yet, don’t fake it until you make it; fake it until you become it.
3. You have the mentality
Being an entrepreneur is not about your skills or knowledge, it is about how you can solve other people’s problems. Yes, you get to set your own schedule, yes you get to make decisions and yes, you get to build an empire. None of that matters unless you know why you are there: to solve a problem and make a dent in the universe.
